| Tax
Hike Won't Help Loudouners |
|
To the editor:
|
| Will the proposed sales tax hike improve the drives of Loudouners?
Not at all. It will just raise our taxes. Each county has
the ability to veto improvements we'd like to see. What that
means is that Loudoun County can put as many lanes as they
can on Route 7, but the Fairfax County board will ensure that
Route 7 in Fairfax is not widened accordingly on their side.
|
| Similarly, Arlington will not allow Route 66 to be expanded.
I don't think these úbenefitsî of non-continuous lanes are
worth another $300-plus per year for my family. Politician
tax estimates have notoriously been low for some reason. I
already have many extra taxes and costs this year such as
increased property taxes and increased benefit costs at my
workplace. I am frankly tired, as a resident of Northern Virginia,
of being fleeced so as to subsidize roads downstate. |
| Come on Sen. Mims and Dels. May, Rust, and Reese--it
is time to show some leadership and start fighting for a return
of our transportation dollars to Northern Virginia! |
| Dels. Black and Marshall are showing the way, and the Loudoun
GOP has come out in opposition to this tax. I'm sure that
Democrat Governor Mark Warner would miss your support for
his tax hike, but we'd also appreciate your rejoining the
low tax Republican fold! |
| Maybe if my company has had to layoff several times in the
past year and half, some bloated government bureau could layoff
some tax increases! |
