Skate Park Should be Cheap
To the editor:
My name is Naomi Riley and I am 14 years old. I think that there should be a skate park in Reston, reason being that after school and on the weekends I really have nothing to do.
I've been in-line skating for about two years now and so far I've been practicing on the hand railings outside of the apartments. I live at Southgate. I also think it should be placed at the community center because it's much more closer to home and some days I can't come up with bus fare (even though it's 50 cents) to ride around Reston to the YMCA.
If a skate park is put in Reston, it would be put to good use by the teenagers that live in Reston and Herndon. I think I speak for all of or most of the teenagers who live in Reston when I say that we don't want to go all the way to Potomac Mills mall.
Another thing, I think that it should be cheap enough so that kids can get in. Nobody goes to a skate park that cost almost $15 to get into. It's just a place were kids can go to have fun. Most of the kids who live in Reston or Herndon may not be in to school dances and on Fridays the Reston Town Center is packed.
Another thing is that alot of radio stations promote and hold concerts and things like that. Just over the summer I went to the Mobil Skate Park Series that was sponsored by a radio station in Washington D.C.
In conclusion, I think the skate park in Reston should be a safe and local place were the skater's can just hang out, have fun, and most of all just skate.
