Council's Vote to Support Tax 'Outrageous' Decision
To the editor:
I find it breathtakingly outrageous and infuriating that the Herndon Town Council, after pushing through every large density development they can on Herndon's citizens, would vote in support of raising our taxes to pay for our now inadequate roads, as reported in Friday's edition of The Observer.
Beyond that, with the state in such dire financial trouble does anyone really think that if this tax passes and the money starts to flow from it that Northern Virginia's current allotment of tax revenue for roads will not be cut by the state?
I've always enjoyed Herndon's status as an independent town exemplified by having our own police department, etc.
But with a council like ours in place, maybe we need to throw ourselves on the mercy of the state to take us back as an unincorporated village, if that is the correct term, if that will eliminate our anti quality-of-life town council.
Bill Harley
